| Joseph Cooke Clanny Marking | JOSEPH COOKE CLANNY - Brass Clanny style safety lamp, marked on hood in triangle JCB, manufactured by Joseph Cooke of Birmingham, England, 10 1/4 in. to top of hook ring and 3 1/2 in. base dia., all brass with steel gauze (Joseph Cooke and Company of Birmingham, England supplied a great variety of lamps. While some of their lamps are marked with the full name of the company, the vast majority are marked with JCB inside a triangle. In 1854 Joseph Cooke took over an earlier Birmingham company formed by Charles Hall in 1820. The company was moved to Lower Lawley Street where it remained for the next 64 years. Joseph Cooke and Company was sold to the Commercial Engineering Company also of Birmingham in 1918. The Commercial Engineering trade mark of CEC inside a triangle marked their lamps.
